It should never 'wipe' a valid address; my guess is that your friend had actually typed an address that was not in the right format and would not have worked anyway. So no, your question should be how can I repair WLM so that it never 'wipes' a valid address. Check Names is not the problem but the way it seems to behave in your friend's case is.

After Googling the issue I did come across one Newsgroup Post that may provide a clue: "Sorry, I do not know why this is happening.
