How do I Add things to the Desktop List?

I want to add things to the Desktop list "WITHOUT" having an icon sitting on the desktop. It must be possible since there are allready icons there when you click desktop from the tasbar that aren't on the Desktop.


Anyone know?

Do you mean the pin to start menu?

No. I Mean this....

I want to Add things to that Pop up list without it being on the Main Desktop. For example the ones I X'ed out. I don't want on the Desktop but I want them to be in the "Tasbar Desktop List"
Right now if I delete them off the desktop they disapear from the pop up list. I want them to stay.

Not gonna happen - all those that you have Xed out are shortcuts, not Namespace placeholders in your computer as the other ones showing from your desktop tab.

AFAIK, right now there isn't way to do this....but I did use to use Namespace holders on my Vista desktop, and it may be possible, using Herby's textless desktop icons, to do this so they don't *show* on the desktop but do show in that Desktop folder....

Hey Thanks, ok that sucks. I figured maybe there was just a folder somewhere w/ the shortcuts or some simple trick.

I'll look into " Herby's textless desktop icons" Otherwise the Desktop on taskbar is useless to me.

I made several of them for Vista, using a little utility called RegPad, which allows for editing registry keys, even those that use that stupid Hex notation for simple commands, in plain text - it made life a lot easier.

I will give it a shot here in a bit and see if I can get it working....

There was also an option that Herby provided to allow to have the icons moved to a Dock - but they should still have been *associated* with the desktop, and that is what I am thinking will do the trick, only instead of moving it to a dock, you'd obviously move them manually to that desktop folder....

Hello IronMan2003, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could hide the desktop icons instead with them still being displayed in the taskbar toolbar.

Right click on the desktop and click on View and Show Desktop Items (uncheck). You can still add shortcuts to the desktop to add to the toolbar, with them still being hidden on the desktop.

How bout make a folder somewhere else named Quick Launch, throw all your shortcuts you want in there. Then add it as a toolbar to the taskbar. Unlock your taskbar to remove text and titles. Then put it whever you like...

But I am still curious about if the Textless icons will work or not....

Can't you add shorcuts to "computer, etc"?

They act just like they do from the start menu - which a shortcut *won't*.

LOL, isn't always though. ;)

I have not tried the textless icons on the desktop yet, but I would image that they should.
