Intel Integrated 845g Chipset Drivers

Hey everybody! I'm running Windows 7 on an Emachines t2862, which has an Intel Integrated Chipset (845g, "Itel Extreme Graphic", specifically).
I've tried installing the XP drivers using the installation as well as the tutorial floating around the forums for installing XP graphic drivers. Both caused Windows to crash shortly after booting. I had plenty of time to open a few programs, but about 45 seconds after booting, Windows simply freezes (mouse included).
I had to boot into safemode and roll the driver back to the standard VGA driver to fix it.

Does anybody have any tips? Thanks!

You should try using Vista Drivers for it if you can find them else you will just be stuck with the default Windows Drivers.

I went HERE and downloaded the XP drivers from Intel. Failed the first time with a "wrong operating system error" but the installer then offered to try again with adjusted compatibility settings. Second try was successful. I can now use the "full" power of the 82845G integrated video on my Win7 test box. Seems OK so far.

I don't think there is a native Vista or Win7 driver for this chipset.

I've got Windows 7 going on a dell dimension 4600c with intel 82865g integrated graphics, and learned real quick that the XP drivers run fine....IF you run them in xp compatability and administrator mode.

Hmm It had the same problem.
I ran the installer in XP (sp2) compatibility and as administrator. The installer seemed to work fine, and it rebooted, but after booting Windows simply freezes after about 45 seconds.

Something must be different. My PC is a Dell Optiplex GX80. It is not a powerful machine with a Celeron 1.8gHz, 1GB RAM and 40GB HD. Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller is what appears in device manager. Driver version is 6.14.10.4342 dated 6/21/2005. I D/L'ed direct from Intel at the link in my previous post. It could be something different in your hardware. Can you change the size of graphics memory in your bios settings? It might make a difference. Did you install any other drivers? It is a beta so you might consider installing Win7 from scratch and try the driver again.

I just installed Win7 and the driver today but it has not crashed and runs smoothly with the basic stuff I have tried so far.

Thanks for the tips!
The Graphic buffer size is already 8MB, which is the maximum my BIOS will allow.
The machine I'm using is an eMachines T2862 (also not a very powerful machine) with a Celeron 2.66ghz and 768mb of RAM. The default specs are here: eMachines T2862 PC Desktop - Product details and features - DealTime

Hmm I actually just realized I have the 845GV chipset, but Intel is convinced it uses the same driver install. That must be what's different.

I'm using a Dell Latitude D400 - Pentium M 1.4GHz, 1GB RAM and integrated Intel graphics with the 830 adaptor.

There seem to be several people with working methods here but I've not seen this one so here it is...

I downloaded the RAR of the Vista driver from this site.

Installed it manually through Device manager and was left with two adaptors - the Intel one and the standard VGA. I only had basic VGA resolution.

After a reboot I went to the standard VGA device and updated the driver choosing from a list. I chose the same driver so that I had two instances of Intel (R) 8252/8255 GM/GME Graphics Controller (MS Corp - XDDM).

Another reboot later and I have full native resolution. No Aero obviously but it beats VGA mode.

Plus it seems stable so far at 15 minutes in. After a reboot it's also holding the driver.

I finally got my video driver to work with 1024 x 768. You have to go to the one that windows creates by default in device manager and manually add the driver, click on have disk or (let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer), then you will tell it where the inf file is. I can't believe how fast win7 is over vista on this old machine! (Dell Latitude D500 1.3ghz w/ Intel Extreme Graphics 855m)

sorry for reviving a old thread, but the same problem applies to this desktop (eMachines T2385).

To everybody on here using the intel 82865g chipset

I found the solution to the intel 82865g chipset driver issue. I have the file that you need. If you need it send me your email address and I can send it to you. when you get it, youll have to run it in windows xp service pack 3 compatability mode in order for it to work. ive tested it on 29 different machines in my computer shop and it has worked on all of them. my email is [email protected]

I don't think there is a native Vista or Win7 driver for this chipset.

I have a Dell Dimension 2350 which has an Intel 845GL chipset according to the Dell documentation.

After a bit of a struggle with the actaul installation I was disappointed to find myself in a low resolution VGA situation. I could tell the |OS was operating well with everything else.

msterlings advice has really delivered the goods - thanks.

I installed the XP chipset package to an SD card then booted to Win7 navigated to the download and right -clicked . I chose properties and clicked both Windows XP SP2 and run as administrator. I then ran it - I did not get the error message that msterling experienced. I clicked the various boxes as the install took place.

I rebooted into a lovely looking 1024x900 resolution. It seems to be holding up nicely. Once I got the BSOD - I had just set up a new user and then went to my SD card and used Windows Live Photo gallery to run a slide show of the images on the card and it went BSOD. I haven't duplicated that exactly but near duplication haven't caused any problems Windows MoLive Movie Maker told me I didn't meet the minum hardware requirements so that one is out of the picture (sorry!).

It will be mainly for viewing Flash and browsing- I am watching the Wimbledon Men's Final as I type.

It will be more than adequate for most of our normal computing needs.

I am not sure why Service Pack 2 should be the compatibilty option I was just following what mrdek had tried.

It is working so well albeit in "Windows Basic" - a lot nippier than my other desktop that runs Aero ok. Though I thinks that's down to the better processor on the Dell 2350.

Intel(R) 82845G resolution problems

Intel(R) 82845G runing 7 Ultimate
My comp wont allow me to adust monitor settings. I have tried updating the drivers a thousand different ways.

Display Adapter just shows a standard VGA. I tried to download the drivers for vista but i get the message that my resolution is not high enough to run the setup. (Really, thats the problem im trying to fix)

Do I really need to go buy a graphics card or am I just missing something?
Any advice would be great
