Try disabling AVG for a while.... while its disabled try opening Office aps ect as you said above.... if my thinking is correct its AVG causing the applications not to close correctly thus giving you an error of non response
Should this be the case then may i suggest you move to Avast
Other things to try are full scans with spybot and other however you already have Malware bytes so im not counting on it to be a virus TBH
Next as you have mechanical drives then a fragmentation and Disc error checking, both can be reached by right clicking the desired drive in Computer and selecting properties..... (Disc error checking will resume on your next reboot)
