Are Both 32 & 64 bit version on one disk?

Does anyone know if both the 32 bit & 64 bit versions will be on One Disk?

I thought I read this somewhere.

If so, can one key be used with both versions?

In other words, can I upgrade straight from 32 to 64 from the same disk if I choose to do it at a later date?

Or will I have to get another disk and pay again?

I'm not sure if they're both on one disk, but you do only need one key.

It's the same setup as Vista three years ago, just as Antman describes. One platform per disc, but your key will work with either platform.

If you plan to switch platforms, you'll be doing a clean install. If you purchase just the 32 bit version, you should be able to get the 64 bit media from Microsoft for about $10, assuming your license type qualifies.

A cool thing happened for me under Vista.

MS sent me a 64-bit retail disc upon request ($10 or so for shipping). With a new key.

Now that is what I call. "OH MY GOD MS did it again."

Back when I was a pirate I would find Vista Product keys on the internet and call MS and put on a "show" for them. A sad story plus me crying because all I want to do is use my computer would have me a brand new product key each time

Was the MS rep named Alice? Ms. Cooper, maybe?

I've recently seen Microsoft staff online repeatedly saying both versions are on the same disc.

My understanding prior was that both were simply "included," potentially on two separate discs.

You get only one key, so you can't use both at once. You also have to fresh install whenever switching between 32-bit and 64-bit, so you can't truly "upgrade."

(For what it's worth, there are some scenarios where they're offering deals on upgrade disks where it appears you only get 32-bit OR 64-bit depending on what you order. But unless you have to specify someplace, you're supposed to get both.)

A member has reported that he attended a MS Launch event in Canada (I forget the city) and he received a Windows 7 install disc. 32-bit only.

Others have addressed the difficulties inherent in attempting to distribute 32-bit and 64-bit installers on a single DVD. All due respect to Microsoft staff online repeatedly saying anything else. Time will tell, I suppose.

Regardless of which single upgrade version (32/64) a user has, MS has a history of providing the alternate for a nominal shipping fee.

Apparently, you can put both versions on a USB flash drive, so perhaps it is possible, but I've never seen it mentioned on Microsoft blogs or any other forum, in terms of coming from MS that way.

Flash as a medium is not subject to the same challenges faced by DVD.

Can you provide a link to "both versions on a USB flash drive"? This would be very handy.

There is a tutorial on here on SF that describes exactly how to do it

Back when Vista was: I ordered a Ultimate Set. it included 1 disk for x86 and 1 disk for x64. Both used the same KEY.
Others stated when they ordered less than Ultimate, they received both x86 and x64 on 1 Disk.

Thanks to Doc McBlzr for this info:

How to Create a Single x86 and x64 Windows 7 Installation DVD
Things you need:
1) ImageX tool = Deposit Files
2) Windows Se7en x86 and Windows Se7en x64 DVDs Or ISOs. ( I used MSDN Official releases which included Starter x86)
3) Ultra ISO or power ISO.
So Let us start:
1) Make two folders, say "64bit" and "Allbit" and copy both Windows 7 DVDs x64 and x86 versions respective folder(I am keeping the folders in "D:" drive).
2) Now open an elevated command prompt and go to the folder where you have kept imagex.exe.
3) Now run the following commands with appropriate INDEX no. to exports a copy of the specified image to another install.wim file. (From "64bit" folder to "ALLbit" folder).
3.1) Imagex.exe /export D:\64bit\Sources\install.wim 1 D:\Allbit\Sources\install.wim "Windows 7 HOMEBASIC x64"
3.2) Imagex.exe /export D:\64bit\Sources\install.wim 2 D:\Allbit\Sources\install.wim "Windows 7 HOMEPREMIUM x64"
3.3) Imagex.exe /export D:\64bit\Sources\install.wim 3 D:\Allbit\Sources\install.wim "Windows 7 PROFESSIONAL x64"
3.4) Imagex.exe /export D:\64bit\Sources\install.wim 4 D:\Allbit\Sources\install.wim "Windows 7 ULTIMATE x64"
4) After running of above commands "Allbit" folder`s install.wim file will be the universal WIM file that contains all version of Windows 7(both x64 and x86) . But you can also export any your desired versions only.
5)Open the Windows 7 x86bit ISO image with UltraISO, delete all the files inside it, then drag "Allbit" folder contents to the ISO please check if the file "ei.cfg" exist in the "sources" folder or not if the file exists then delete it and save ISO anywhere you want. Now burn it and install.
Now you got a single DVD for Windows 7 with all versions of both 32bit & 64bit which takes more or less 4GB.

orbit30's been combining x86 and x64 into a single disc that installs fine since the 6000 beta series, why can't ms do it? :P answer: $, regardless of how small a price the extra packaging costs maybe $2, shipping 3ish, so they get around $5 profit for each extra disc they ship out with no key. sure it may seem like nothing, but think about millions of extra discs shipped upon request, millions of people who get confused and just wind up buying a copy of x64 when they don't realize they need x86, and just dump more money into an x86 copy without realizing they can request a 'free' copy of the media.

more questionable tactics, yo. pretty standard for the business world, and ms in general.

Thank you, gentlemen. The dual OS/single device trick will prove to be rather convenient.

Can anyone provide an image of the boot screen?

Z - I can't find the SF tutorial.

The thread I linked mentions that the OP was going to add them....but I didn't scroll down past his original post to look for them.
