HomeGroup OK via ethernet but NOT via wireless

Dear all,

I have read all (i think) homegroup topics here but none solved my problem.


Homegroup is working perfectly when both computer are connected to router by ethernet cable.

As soon as i unplug the cable from computer 1. None of the computer is recognizing the homegroup of the other.

I tried rebooting both computers. Leaving homegroup, rebooting create new homegroup >> nothing helps.

Both computer get internet, can connect to the router, both computer can see and share folders with each other via the the network sharing way.

Both ethernet & wireless connection show up as HOME NETWORK

I have executed the Homegroup troubleshooter on both computers No changes.

Any clues on this?

I believe homegroup is tied to the network connection. Did you create a homegroup for the wireless network connection?

two different homgroups?

So we should have 1 main Homegroup on main pc, and on the laptop, just "join" the homegroup that was created on the pc?

I would think that would work.

I found a topic where one user was saying that naming the wireless SSID the same way as the name of the network for computer connected via ethernet cable could solve homegroup issue.

I therefore changed SSID NAME to NETWORK & let the router broadcast that name > but this did not change the problem for me.
I also unplugged the router 30sec and plugged again. No change to problem.

To Clarifify this is my set up:

Router is in the living room
Computer PC 1 connected via ethernet cable in the living room
Computer PC 2 in bed room connected via wireless.

When computer 2 is connected via ethernet cable to router homegroup is working.

If i understand you correctly.

Is your recommendation the following:

1) Leave Homegroup on both computers
2) Reboot both computers
3) Create only one homegroup on computer 2 (which is connected via wireless)
4) Reboot Computer 2 & Computer 1
5) Check if computer 1 (connected via ethernet) can see and join homegroup from computer 2.

Am i correct?

Same problem with Windows 7 Pro. My desktop PC is connected directly into the Belkin Router and works fine, but the laptop had very inconsistent connection adn I had to reinstall the laptop with workgroups instead of Homegroup. This corrected the problem.

Fishbone, do you have a virus program or firewall? Try disabling them and see if yuo can see the other users
Also, I struggled with homegroups for a very stupid reason: you have to enable discovery on every user, and check the share box (sorry for not precise terminology, I am at my XP computer right now) . Mine worked fine after I did that. You perhaps did already, because it oince worked, but worth checking
