Conexant Hi Def SmartAudio HD2 Win7 x64 Driver Problem

Only after installing Win7 Ultimate x64 on my HP dv9620us did I discover HP, apparently fulfilling their Total Care credo (total care for HP via built in obsolescence), isn't supporting Win7 on this model.

So, I installed the drivers provided by HP for Vista x64 for this model, and the NVidia drivers directly from their site. But I can't get any drivers for the Conexant Hi Def SmartAudio HD2 to work. First of all, and strangely, my machine doesn't seem to recognize the Hermosa driver -- it says it can't find any device for the driver. So, then, I actually found what seems the driver from Microsoft (Microsoft Update Catalog). I put the AMD x64 drivers in a folder on my desktop. But, when I try to install this driver, I get this message:

"Windows was unable to install your Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus. Windows could not find drivers for your device."

Why isn't this working?! I'm totally without any and all sound, which is really a problem.

Any informed guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!

That's how I've been installing the drivers: first using any .exe installation software, and upon failure of that, using the Device Manager.

Still no luck.

Here's the Hardware IDs:

Any further suggestions?

Alright, but if you follow exactly as I've outlined to a tee, it should install for you. It is the Vista driver specifically for your hardware. 7 generally enjoys Vista drivers.

The only other resource I could locate is this. It's a little bit of jumping through hoops to get it, but possibly worth it if the previous link is unable to work for you no matter how closely you followed what I said.

Good luck!

lol I just realized I didn't outline for you proper way. (I sometimes get mixed up with different threads.)

Right click audio device in device manager, update driver software. Browse. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Find the .inf that extracted from the .exe now. Click on it.

Do this with the first link I posted from post #2.

Torrentg,

BTW, thanks very much for taking the time to help me. I really appreciate it. I use sound a lot on my PC: websites, youtube, news, video, skype, webcam. Without it is very debilitating.

I've followed your directions PRECISELY.

What's confusing is that my computer seems to disagree with itself. It says this driver is the correct driver. The driver installs successfully.

hrmxs3.jpg

But I still get this message: No audio output device installed
inzx5l.jpg

When I click that speakerX icon, Troubleshooting launches, but it can't identify the problem:
amxws0.jpg

And DriverDetective concurs that the correct, up-to-date driver is in fact installed.

I am left perplexed. Here's further information which might bear on the subject. I used this OS file to install, and perhaps it's leading to some of these issues:
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 OEM (Dell) Pre Activated

One other point: Prior to my Windows 7 update, I installed Kubuntu (Ubuntu with KDE interface) dual boot, and with Kubuntu the sound seems to be working fine (except for a known issue I have yet to address concerning Flash plugin sound). Just thought it might bear on the situation.

Any further ideas?

My user name is torrentg, yes, but discussion of torrents such as you link to or posting links like that aren't allowed here.

That being said, it is not your issue. Neither is the other stuff you said.

Right click the speaker icon. Not left.

Go to playback devices. Choose Conexant or similar. Right click on it and set it as default playback device.

Let me know if you were even able to do this. (Meaning does OS allow you to.)
