Tune-Up Utilities 2010 Key Issue

Hi guys. I've been using the trial version of Tune-Up Utilities 2010 on my lappy, and decided I really liked it and wanted the full version. About the same time the program started spamming me with notifications telling me my trial version was about to run out. I went and got a key for it, and the next time a notification came up - telling me to "Click here for more information" - I clicked on it, hoping to find a window or something where I could enter my key. No luck. There wasn't even any information, it just opened the Start Center as normal (not helpful). I searched through every part of the program I could think of, trawled through the help, and even did some Googling to see if anyone else had any ideas. No luck again. So I come to you, hoping maybe you might be able to help me with my problem. Does anyone at all have any idea how I might be able to enter my key?

Things that won't help me:
1. Telling me to reinstall the program - I already tried that, and the installer didn't give me an option to enter the key.
2. Telling me Tune-Up Utilities is a **** program and I should use something else (insert program suggestion here) - it's all fine and good if you don't like the program, but I do and I want to keep using it, so please don't recommend another program.

Thanks. Hope someone has an idea or two!

~lozneo

P.S.: System specs should tell you all you need to know about my system. Feel free to throw questions my way, I'll try and reply as soon as possible.

Try this:

Start the program and on the top right you will see Help & support, click on the dropdown you will see register or about. ( can't really remember )....:p

Try either one you should be able to register with your key.

Afraid that doesn't work... I'm gonna have to take a screenshot for you at some stage, but that option simply isn't there. That's why I asked, though I should have said that in the beginning... :o It's very odd.

(sorry about the size!)

As you can see, there is definitely nowhere in the Help & Support menu to register with my key. Does anyone have any idea what I can do? It's starting to frustrate me no end.

@ Qdos: No, I didn't download a pre-cracked version.

@Bulldog7: The funny thing is, it says I have a product key. BUT - and listen, please - I can't use things like Turbo Mode because I keep getting a popup when I turn it on saying something like "Turbo Mode is being disabled because your trial period has expired."

@win7clutz: And that's what I thought. But apparently it's still not registered.

So I'm confused. Bar a complete reinstall and trying again with my key (for the fourth or fifth time now), I'm lost as to what to do now.

Since you have legitimately purchased the app, why not contact their tech support... Surely they can help.

Otherwise I would assume that your uninstall/reinstall attempts don't correct the problem because of left over data in the registry that uninstall isn't removing. I would do the following:

Uninstall again - Manually check that the app dir was removed - Check for any occurrences in program files/common that may exist (although I don't believe it make entries here) - Remove all temp filess from the box - Search registry and remove all occurrences to the app - Reboot and install again.

If the same problem exist, contact their tech support!

Luck! :geek:

After a week of trying to figure out what the problem was, I gave up. I simply decided the problem wasn't worth solving - I mean, the program's great, but not worth stressing about. I tried using friend's legit keys and some *other* keys, and I even emailed Tune-Up about it. Sadly, no matter what key I tried it seemed to think it was a trial key, and Tune-Up said it was probably an issue with my computer. :( So I think I'll leave it.

Again, as stated, you need to ensure the folder where you installed it to is gone. Delete temp files and do a registry search, using regedit. Lots of programs leave lots of registry entries behind when you un-install a program. Sometimes hundreds of entries and they all need to go before you re-install.

Hi Lozneo!
Really TuneUp is a great application... I mean a lot of application. Your case is really sad. As far as I remember, When I installed the program in my computer, it wanted a serial key or proceed trial. So for a fresh installation, this dialog may be obtained again.

Uninstall the program using Revo uninstaller (free; removes all leftover information including registry). Then reinstall it again; give the serial at the first chance, and get registered. I hope it may solve the issue.

@pweegar: Suppose I should have told you more. My bad. Someone else suggested that to me earlier in this thread, and so I did that each and every time I uninstalled the program. That's why I was really confused about it still not working, because I know I got rid of everything in the registry and the temp folders. As for the folder it was installed to, I hadn't thought of checking that out but I'm pretty sure it went. If that's the reason it's not working properly I'll kick myself.

@Arc: Cheers for that. I agree, it's a good program and I would like it to work. I might give that a go and see if it works for me. I'll let you know though.

Lozneo,
I would also suggest that you download, install, and run any kind of registry cleaner that you like. I use ccleaner on occassion. It may find entries that you have no idea what they are, may be left by any number of programs. Also, are you trying to install the very latest version? Have you went to their web site and looked around? Maybe try downloading the program again and then install ut.

@pweegar: I regularly use CCleaner, that's the registry cleaner I used to get rid of all associated things. Really good program. And yeah, I am trying to install the latest version - the 2010 one, not sure of the version number - simply because that's the only one that works properly on Windows 7. =/ So this whole situation is a bit confusing. There really shouldn't be anything stopping me from installing it and using my key and having a full version...

@Arc: Thanks for the suggestion! I finally have Tune-Up Utilities working correctly (for now). Revo Uninstaller was a fantastic suggestion - it got rid of all the stuff I wasn't able to get rid of the first million times around. :D Hopefully this works properly now. I only have to wait 30 days to find out...

Sadly, it took less than 30 days. In fact, I think it took about 43 minutes. *Apparently* my trial period has expired. AGAIN. Any more ideas? Revo was a great one - I'll keep that program. But Tune-Up Utilities is driving me mad.

Firstly, that program is an unnecessary rip-off - use disk cleanup and clean out the %TMP% yourself and use sageset to schedule the task. If you paid for it, get a refund.

Okay, thanks for your opinion... I did ask people not to tell me to use a different program, but I guess I can handle it once or twice. :)

Well, just so you know (in case you haven't read the whole thread) I have used CCleaner countless times to clean out the temp folders, the registry and my hard drive, to no effect (on a side note, I also use disk cleanup, though I feel it doesn't work as well). It *still* thinks that I have a trial key, and that I need to get a new one. As for sagesets, thanks for the recommendation but I run cleaner programs enough that I don't feel I need to set it up so one runs automatically. I don't feel it would change anything, really.

What makes you say that it is an unnecessary rip-off? It works for me. I like what it does and how it does things, but I guess everyone is different.

*sigh*

This is why I hate these 3rd rate software programs that you can install for free but they have no or limited removal tools tot remove the garbage after you find out is is C!%~. The answer then is to check and ask other before you install FREE NO NAME software on your computer.
