Its a totally user controlled, simple and easy solution for quick access organized as you want it to be that has been in Windows for years. It even accommodates drag and drop, e.g. drop a Firefox address bar icon onto the ">>", and it will be placed in the GoTo folder. You can also open the toolbar and drag and drop icons into subfolders. Never could understand why people never made much use of this feature :>)
This is what I ended up doing also. It works really well and once you get used to using it, you will never go back
Every time I install something, simply check the box to have an icon installed to your desktop (or create it manually if that option is not presented) and then cut/paste this into your shortcuts folder (mine sits in My Doc's). It will then automatically appear in the >> button next to the taskbar icons. Click the >> and rightclick on it, select sort and everything is rearranged in alphabetical order. Works a charm and so easy to do.
