A test to see if the encryption is causing the problem is to temporarily turn it off and see if the connection is stable. You'll need to do this on the router and the desktop. What wireless card is installed in the machine? even though the M3720 may run Win7, the wireless card itself since it's an accessory may have some issues.
Ok, I think this is what we tried with the old tower (well a friend did).
I will see if I can find some details of the wireless card.
