Help with sleep wake up

My computer can go to sleep mode. But upon wake up, it will stuck there with no video signal. I can see the fans are moving, cd and hd seems working. I have the latest bios installed and have tried different settings. Any thoughts?
This is my spec:
MSI Neo2 P35 with intel e2180
evga 8600gts
4gb ram.

I installed nvidia 181.20 driver.

Allmost same here , it comes back from Sleep mode but explorer freezes .....

You graphics card has 2 outputs on the back. Try changing the cable to the other output and see what happens.

It could be some device of yours does not allow the computer to wake up properly. I would go for Mouse, Keyboard and/or network adapter.

ME Too

I have this problem too. An Acer Aspire m5201, two monitors and no video signal when it wakes.

I have upgraded bios, upgraded Nvidia driver and the chipset driver, fiddled with bios settings and I can't get it to work.

Any hep very gratefully received

I have noticed a pattern.
1) I click the mouse to wake up the system,
2) PC powers on but (I have dual monitors) both displays are black, 2nd monitor power light is amber.
3) If I press the PC power button after a couple of seconds the primary display will turn on or basically the log on screen appears. (On a side note, while the screen is black I have tried to hit keys on the keyboard and when the display returns it tells me the password entered is incorrect)

On a another note, when this doesn't happen, and the PC powers on quickly like it should, after I log on and get the desktop then Explorer freezes for anywhere from 2-5 minutes. After which there are no further delays.

My friend has suggested that it may be due to S1-S3 types of suspend and that Windows just doesn't like my hardware. I'll update this if I can figure it out, comments are welcome.

same issue

My pc goes to sleep...upon wake up, with either mouse or keyboard...both of my dual monitors don't wake up.....as if no video signal....hard reboot required to bring up....??????

I have the same issue. I have completely disabled sleep, hybrid, and pretty much anything that would suspend the computer. I do however have the "password on wakeup" check for when my screensaver kicks in. Here is what happens,

I wake with my mouse and my login screen comes up. I type in my password and it looks like I am logging in. The problem is I never get to my desktop. All I get is a black screen. I had the same similiar issue with Vista only I would never get to the login screen.

I resolved my Windows 7 sleep problem. When my computer would sleep, it would not wake up and my wireless mouse and keyboard seemed disconnected. Other USB devices never powered on. I eventually had to hard boot it to get the computer back up. Here is what I did to resolve it. This may only work for others that have a USB related sleep issue.

1. I ran the "powercfg -energy" command from a command prompt elevated woth administrator rights (right click, run as administrator).
2. The report had many instances with this information pointing to a USB issue: "USB Suspend:USB Device not Entering Suspend" providing a clue to the problem.
3. I went to Control Panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Power Options --> Change Plan Settings (on your preferred plan) --> Change Advanced Power Settings --> USB Settings --> USB Selective Suspend Setting.
5. I changed the setting to: Disabled.
6. I placed the computer into sleep and woke it up several times and the problem was resolved.

I hope this post helps others with USB related sleep issues with Windows 7. Good luck.

Try with monitor sleep set to "never". When the computer goes to sleep the monitor sleeps regardless.
Works for me.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. My system's failure signature was that the system would go to sleep and the screen go blank as normal. Then it would wake up correctly when the mouse was moved with the monitor coming back up where I left off. However the system would respond to mouse movements for a little while and then just freeze up completely. The only way to get the system back from that point was to reset it. I tried all types of power setting changes both in Windows 7 and BIOS and nothing worked until I disabled the "wake timers" and ever since then the system wakes up from sleep without any problems. To disable the "wake timers" you need to perform the following steps:
1) go to "Control Panel"
2) select "Power Options"
3) select "Change plan settings"
4) select "Change advanced power settings"
5) open the "Sleep" tree section
6) change "Allow wake timers" to "Disable"

I don't think the above is a solution. First, they are talking about Vista not Win 7, second they are talking about laptops and battery issues. Doesn't help Win 7 desktop users.

I had a very similar problem where my dual monitors were responding with blacked-out screens on boot-up and/or wake from Sleep. To not bore you with all the details this is what I found:

In the Device Manager I noticed several entries for Infrared (IR) devices. The Human Interface Devices had several; the System Devices had several; the Mice and Other Pointing Devices had two; the Keyboards had two; and the Universal Serial Bus Controllers had several. My system has no IR devices attached and I wondered if the system was "confused" with all of these "ghost devices and drivers" remaining on the system. I decided to "Disable" everything in the Device Manager that was associated with an IR device. Once they were disabled I ran "Scan for hardware changes" and upon completion all but two of the IR related entries evaporated! The 2 remaining devices, one in System Devices and one the Universal Serial Bus Controllers remains disabled while I further research as to whether it is okay to "Uninstall" these devices from the system...

This "fix" seems to have corrected my problem although I am still testing it! It may not work for you, but good luck!

Problem came back after 3 days...

The fix I mentioned before was only temporary (3 days) then the black-out screen problem slowing creeped back into the system. Somehow all the IR related devices were repopulated in the Device Manager and a few more were added!?!? There is something inherently wrong with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 with, I believe, Media Center and any/all IR devices. At this point I'll probabaly request a refund from Dell to include shipping. Too bad as I really liked Windows 7, but this system is unreliable and major pain in the "rear-end"!
