different solution - trend micro AV caused the prob

i fixed this problem a different way and thought i would share, but thanks to the thread for pointing me in the right direction.

when i was putting my new windows 7 desktop onto the domain in my office i saw trend micro AV making a few objections but not giving me any option to allow/disallow.

the machine was on the domain ok but refused point blank to go onto the internet. i uninstalled trend micro AV but still no joy.

uninstalled the network card. reinstalled. bingo. jumped to life.

trend micro AV completely messed up the settings somewhere.

I wanted to let all know that I changed the mac address...did fix for the session, but when restart, was back to 00 address. You can also disable and then re enable the network adapter driver for the same effect. Followed the advice to uncheck Bonjour service...mine was called Apple services...and that fixed the problem for good. Indeed, Apple is doing something to create a conflicting network. Must note that on a different machine, even with Safari, iTunes and Quick Time installed, I never had this problem. Suspect it's a driver conflict for certain on-board network adapters JH

With some of the new eithernet drivers for Windows 7 the MAC and IP can't be accessed in the normal way. Many people are having the same problem as you.

Following the link below has also fixed the Unidentified network problem on countless occasions.

And anyone if anyone reading this is confused by the directions like I was this picture should clear it up for you.

I had tried the changing the MAC address, disabling Bonjour, but the thing that cured it for me was removing Mcafee.

It was asking for activation, and had been doing so for 177 days, but it just decided to block internet access.

As soon as it had been uninstalled, then network connection came back, and I was off downloading Microsoft Security Essentials. Worked fine ever since.

I just found this on the Microsoft Answers Windows forum, courtesy of someone called Debbie Solo. (Any relation to Napoleon, the Man from U.N.C.L.E.?) Her fix worked for me. It is as follows:

Go to Start - Search Box - TYPE "msconfig" -
Hit Enter -
Click Services Tab -
Click the check box next to ##Id_String1.6844f930_1628_4223_b5cc_5bb94b879762## Apple Computer, INC (that is, UNcheck it)
Hit OK and
Restart your computer

Had the exact same problem (though my Windows 7 did work for about a week) and this solved it.

Thank you SO much.

Sorry for the old bump, but I found this thread while searching for a solution to my problem and this was the winning ticket for me. I was on the phone for 1 hour with my ISP, spent another couple hours fudging with cables, settings, etc.. I had been skipping activating my free trial of Norton Internet Security on the reboots. I read this post, decided to activate it. Voila. Hours of frustration solved.

I had to create an account to share this as it's been incredibly frustrating.

Hi! i did 2 installation of Windows 7 (1 clean and other upgrade) both resulting in "unidentified network access". Looked all over the internet for solution and tried all of them but none worked. I am having Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC. In the end after almost giving up all hope and possible return to vista, i tried the following

1.Right Clicked Local Area Connection
2.Clicked Configure
3.Advanced Tab
4.Highlighted Network Address and changed value by entering random 12 alphanumeric characters (i used 02EF22FD2310 from the top of my mind)
5. Click OK

and whoala immediately got connected to the net

Below is the ipconfig /all output before it got solved

Solution to unidentified network: with additional suggestion

I also thank you Omar. I spent 16 hours trying other suggested solutions before this.

One additional suggestion for folks like me who have their router set to only accept certain MAC addresses:

the 12 digit number that appears in that line of the ipconfig /all is the MAC address of the NIC. I suggest not inserting your MAC address rather than a random number.

That's the craziest thing I've seen in a while... I just switched from AT&T to Comcast and couldn't get it to connect. I was ready to start punching myself in the face. And then I saw this... why not. And it worked right away! THANK YOU!!!
