Hello,

I have currently 4gb or ram (Im pretty sure that my pc used to detect or make use of it all), however i probably have messed up something and it uses only 3 now! It is win7 build 7068 x64 so technically it should make use of it all. Any suggestions?

thanks!

it says to refresh the monitoring :P

besides, you maybe using your 1Gb on the internal video card for its memory ;)

^ yep, you either have an allocated amount of physical memory dedicated to something else or you don't have memory remapping enabled in your bios.

Well yes, I do have GTX280 1GB gpu. But isn't x64 supposed to accommodate all of it ?

i also have the same GPU, and RAM should show 4GB regardless, video ram is dedicated on it's own, and @ 1GB that's amazing, I know..lol
Refresh your WEI score, and you'll be ok.

The "reserved for hardware" answer is the same one I got when running 32 bit Vista with 4GB a year ago. What is the advantage of using a 64 bit OS with 4Gb ram then? And why are there so many references to win32 when you generate a system health report in Windows 7 64 bit? It looks like this:

OS Checks
Operating System Info

Query
root\cimv2:SELECT*FROM Win32_OperatingSystem
root\cimv2:SELECT*FROM Win32_ComputerSystem

--- or this further down the list ---

System Services

Query
root\cimv2:SELECT __Relpath, Name, Caption, Description, DisplayName, PathName, Started, ExitCode, State, ServiceSpecificExitCode FROM Win32_Service

with every available/running windows service listed as a "Win32" service after it.

I upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit (which it reports as OS in other places) from Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Here are machine specs.

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L (latest bios)
Core 2 Duo E6600
4GB G-Skill RAM (2x2GB)
HTO CLARO Sound
Intel Gigabit CT NIC
EVGA Nvidia 260 GTX 216 core Video

THERE IS NO MEMORY REMAP OPTION IN MY BIOS

If there is no option for memory remapping in your BIOS then you're pretty screwed - I'm in the same situation. 1Gb of my 4Gb RAM on Win7 x64 is 'hardware reserved' and the only way to get past this is having a BIOS that enables memory remapping. I'm taking the issue up with ASUS at the moment, hoping for updated firmware that support memory remapping, I suggest you do the same with your motherboard manufacturer.

That is rather weird. I wonder if there are other tools besides the wei that can report about your system. What about in the task manager? Is it reporting the same thing?

ahhh thats very interesting
if you go into the resource monitor ive got
hardware reserved 131MB my only explaination is that this is used to run just the operating system, thus making a more stable version of windows.
it all figures out if you take that away from 4096mb (4GB) you get 3.87GB

Theoretically!?!? 16 Exabytes...

But as a practical matter, Microsoft sets different limits depending on the version of the OS.
Memory Limits for Windows Releases (Windows)

Interesting quote:

The maximum 2TB limit of 64-bit Windows Server 2008 Datacenter doesn't come from any implementation or hardware limitation, but Microsoft will only support configurations they can test. As of the release of Windows Server 2008, the largest system available anywhere was 2TB and so Windows caps its use of physical memory there.

From: Mark's Blog : Pushing the Limits of Windows: Physical Memory

2 Terabytes of RAM... "But can it run Crysis..."

I had the same problem and for me worked this solution :

>Go to BIOS and enable "Memory Remap".>

But can anyone tell me please, what have i done with that change? I just got "extra" 0,8 gb of ram, but i wonder if that affects on anything?

hmmm interesting, unfortunately i now only have the 32bit version of windows 7 on my macbook through bootcamp, as windows 7 completely messed up wen i put a new gpu in my gaming pc, and i had to put vista back on it. But i think that the ram issue is caused by the OS not your hardware. :)

I don't know how much truth there is here, But I was told that windows 7 reserves some percentage of whatever amt of ram you have installed to use if your activities cause it to run low on ram. I guess it is like windows :Ace in the hole" card.
