Help an old lady get this thing working, please
Steps I have taken:
I renamed both sets of Windows Mail, 32 and 64 bit to Windows Mail 7 and then copied my saved 32 bit folder and the downloaded 64 bit ones to C: and D: Program Files and Program Files (86). (Having a set on D may be causing a problem.)
I downloaded both .reg files from here and the first gave me an error. Tried second and it was successful. Tried first again and got an error, don't quite remember, something about may not have been successful. However I tried to link to the test mailto: and that worked. ????? Maybe it worked for mailto: but not the other registry keys?
It is my (only) default mail program, checked that.
Copied link from D: Program Files to startup and when I clicked on it, it said "Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be found." It was right there in the folder. I recopied the downloaded 64 bit files again (thank you sir, for the files.)
Also, at some point it said MSOE.DLL could not be initialized."
Rightclicked on WinMail.exe from D Program Files. drug it to Desktop and selected make shortcut here or something like that, then clicked on it and got "Windows Mail could not be started. The
application was unable to open the Windows Mail message Store. Windows Mail was unable to locate its message database. If you've moved the database files to a new location, click OK to reset the database path to that location. Otherwise, click Cancel to proceed, any existing messages found will be available under Orphoned Accounts. (oxoooo0000). I clicked OK.
Then it said "Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Mail message store. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full. (0x890070057,183)
The next message was "Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be found."
I then renamed the shortcut Windows Mail.exe and got the same thing.
Fiddled with ownership like crazy in C Program Files, sent it to the Desktop as a shortcut.
Don't ask me how, but at some point I got it open (I think I clicked on it within the file folder), and it had my account settings all in their but not my files. I wrote an email as a test and tried to send it but got an error message back: some errors have occurred and "Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Server: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F"
So please, for the love of God, tell me what I have done wrong, and how to fix it. I am, much as I hate to admit it, an old lady, have a brain lesion that slows me down a lot, have wasted too much time on this cursed thing.
