Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit

I kept messing around to try and solve the problem. One of the XP fixes if you had deleted Fire Fox was to go in and remove IE8 as the default browser. Well in looking around in Win 7/IE9, i ran into a box that said IE9 64 bit could not be set as the default. Something I did removed IE9 from the task bar and desktop but did not remove it from C:\Programs. So I started IE9 from c:\Program\Internet Explorer and the first box that came up was"Do I want to set IE9 as the Default Browser"? I clicked no and from then on, all has been o.k. You explain that.!
Thanks for the help.
