Can't System Restore, Boot or startup repair after removing viruses
I used AVG Rescue CD to remove some pesky viruses off of a friends lenovo Win 7 32bit (upgraded from vista) machine.
I stupidly chose to erase the infected files and something must have been a critical startup file for win7. It wont boot goes into startup repair and then, after a long time says it cant fix the problem. I tried system restore which after a while said it failed as well.
At one point I had a error message (after a failed startup repair) that C:\windows\system32\drivers\rdyboost.sys is corrupt.
I got the Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade disk from my friend and booted from the DVD drive and ran startup repair....it says it cant find anything wrong!!! Still wont complete sys restore (tried several points) when booted from DVD or safe mode.
when i boot from the HD same startup repair failure each time.
I didnt back up any files and dont have a external drive to back up to. I guess I will have to go buy one...back up the HD after booting from AVG rescue cd, then do a clean install. (is that possible from a vista upgrade using upgrade disk?)
or does anybody have a suggestion? I might try a upgrade repair install?? from the DVD?
