    backup image

I've discovered that, just like with Acronis True Image, I can now make a complete backup of my harddrive and save that image file onto some dvd's. So I can put it back on a new harddrive should the first one fail at some point.

My question: what will happen if I decide to buy a much large harddrive the next time? Will it give an error saying that the total drive space isn't the same as the old one from which the image file was made? Or will it put back my files on the larger harddrive just like they where on the old and smaller one?

The size of the HD should not be a problem. Just as when backing up to an external hard drive. The size does not matter.

If you restore from the Acronis CD, at the point it asks for the Back up location, swap DVDs at that point if you have only 1 DVD Drive.

If it is a sector by sector Image, you will have the option to create partitions, and label them when restoring from the Acronis CD.

If it is a regualar Full disk image, it will restore the image exatly as it was, leaving the extra space as unallocated at the end of the drive.

Once in windows, you can then extend the partition to use all of the spce, or create a new partition. Whichever you prefer.
