    If you go to:

Control Panel (showing all items) ---> System ---> System Protection ---> Click on hard drive and then 'Configure'

Do you have the 'Restore system settings and previous versions of files' radio button highlighted?

    Hello Julian.

Now that you have that sorted, there is always this option in the tutorial at the link below.

I have on system restore, but have UAC off because of a WORD problem. Is this something I should be concerned about?

    Hello billberry12.

It is never a good idea to disable UAC as that gives any malware that finds its way into the system un-checked control over the entire system, UAC is the last defense to alert you of potential intrusions.

I would seriously consider re-enabling UAC as it serves an extremely useful purpose for protecting against unauthorised use of your computer.

BFK i followed the tut for instant restore point at startup without details and when i extracted the zip file /winrar there was only one file in the folder and the other was a shortcut on the desk top,
anyhow i cut and pasted into prog files and startup file and restarted but there is no restore point for the startup i just did.
could i have done something wrong
