Backup CD/DVDs with errors
Hi, ; )
I am looking for a program which will do the following:
- Copy the contents of a CD/DVD
- skip the unreadable files
- show a list of the skipped files once it's done
- it needs to be FAST! unreadable files need to be skipped fast! recovery is not needed
During the last few days I have testdriven a few CD/DVD recovery programs but they all had the same problem. They need forever!!
For example one DVD that I tried holds around 90000 files. If I do a normal copy to the HD with windows, it stops at certain files and I get the CRC error alert. The workaround would be to write down the bad files and "copy around them" but this also takes very long.
The programs I tested all try to recover the files... and eventually skip a sector once the program is sure it cannot be read/recovered. Like i said already this takes forever and in my case I dont even care about those files. I just need to make a list of the bad files and grab the good ones.
The programs I tested eventually will probably do their job if I just give them enoug time. But I tested each for 10+ hours and there was still no end in sight. I cannot afford to spend more than 30 minutes per disk. In case you might ask. In one of the program I found options to reduce the retry and timeout values, but even with minimum settings it took forever.
so please if you know a program that does what I need... copy files, skip the bad ones fast and list them fast... please let me know... Or maybe you even have a better Idea. The job is to bakup a huge pile of old CDs DVDs to HD and do that as fast as possible. Making an image of the bad Disks and skip the errors is not an option because all files that end up on the HD should be good.
