    System restore disabled

I have Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium. Noticed a few days ago that Windows updates were failing. After researching, I found out that this was because my system is unable to create restore points.

When I access System Properties, System Restore is grayed out and under "Available Drives" is a never-ending "Searching..." message. Further checking reveals that the hidden System Volume Information folder in the root contains 0 bytes.

How can I get System Restore to function again?

System Restore - Enable or Disable

    This should do it.
    Let me know.
Any questions I'll try to answer.
    Mike

    Try Option 2 first.

Many thanks for your prompt reply. Unfortunately, I can't use option 2, since I have Windows 7 Home Premium. I tried option one, and it did not help. I checked the Registry and found the key "DisableSR" with a data value of 0 as the Enable_System_Restore.reg file directs. I am going to boot and see if that helps.
I will let you know after the boot.

After boot, System Properties Available Drives tab still shows "Searching..."

    Hello and Welcome !

Do you have enough Disk space in C Drive ? Type Services in Start Menu Search Box, hit Enter. Make sure that the Volume Shadow Copy Service is Running. Follow this article and see if that helps. System Restore General Troubleshooting to Fix Issues

    Hope this helps,
