    windows recovery error

    Hi Guys

Woke up today and my monitor was black but on, restarted the pc with the "restart" button on the front tower panel.

To my surprise I noticed during start up that my system was not
reading my drives which led me to this system recovery error.

Neither of the 2 options helped me.

    Option1: recover files
    Option2: start computer normally

I tried starting safe mode and it brought me to the same screen.

Don't know what to do, in a huge pickle this time, can anyone solve this.

    Hi Steve2010
You are showing that you have Windows Vista but this is a Windows 7 Forum. Are you in the right place? I think you should perhaps be here: Vista Forums

Steve, are you saying you can't boot the Windows install DVD or that you can boot it but get the error sometime after the boot starts?

I can boot it but after it loads the files, it goes directly
    to the black screen error.

It could be caused by defective RAM or other hardware. Check out the RAM first.

Download Memtest86+ (you want the 2nd one - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)).

Unzip it then create a CD from the iso file using your CD burning software. There is a good freeware burner called ImgBurn which will do this easily.

Boot the CD and run for at least 3 complete passes unless it shows errors sooner than that.

I got tired of messing with this and took it to a shop (first time ever for this).
Should get it back in couple days.

    Thanks for all your inputs.
