I have yet to create a "System Reserved" partition in Win7 either intentionally or accidentally, but it would not surprise me if Acronis reports it as the "C" drive if it is the active primary partition.

I'll go with advisable. Seems like a reasonable step to keep doing.
I always partition a new hard drive first, especially if it's bigger, don't like the OS partition to be too big. I like to keep excess space in my Data partition.
Thanks for the reply.

win 7 X64 Ultimate SP1
Mount Image

I cannot get Acronis to mount an image. Several Installs etc. Below is some info maybe my
hardware is not compat. Stupid question -- Is this firewall related?
Win 7 6.1.7600
TrueImage 2009 9796 (latest available)
Bios AMI 0606
Set in Bios --- Intel VT-d ..... enabled
Win 7 Services
DCom Server Process -- Started
RPC ---------- Started
RPC Locator ------ Manual
RPC Endpoint Manager --- Automatic
Virtual Disk --- Started

It mounts the image and explorer sees it I can call it up and look at it, Mean while Acronis continues to show the window where it is assigning the drive letter. It finally times out and aborts and my image disappears in explorer. Acronis "cannot assign drive letter"

Win7 Pro 32-bit, Win8 Pro 32-bit

This is a problem reported often in the "old" Acronis forums using ATI Home and Windows 7. Since Acronis does not consider the current ATI Home compatible with Windows 7, it's unlikely they'll fix it.

Acronis is focusing their efforts on the 2010 Beta. So, my guess is that, if any "fix" is applied, it will be to the 2010 version.
