Windows 7: Macrium Question

I have just started using Macrium to image my disks. It is prompting me to "Create a Restore Disk". What is this used for?

Its a bootable disk to run Macrium to do a restore if Windows gets corrupted and you need to restore the OS.

One more question. == When I go to make the Rescue Disk, it gives me an option of Linux or BartPE which discusses Windows XP. I am using Version 4.2. How do I get a Restore of Win 7?

It doesn't matter since it boots its own OS and runs the program. Just a standalone system from the boot disk. I use the Linux one.

I use the Linux boot disk without any problems. I'd suggest you burn one and check it boots ok.

Once you have made a Macrium image you don't need to manually open Macrium to mount the image and look at it in explorer. Just double click on the image file & it mounts. Right click on the mounted disk to select unmount.

Backing up as you prob know just select the partitions in one go to make a backup image set. If you have the 100MB reserved partition I always include in the set (it's so small). You often don't need to replace it but it's good to have in case you do.
Now to restore.
(1) Load Macrium or boot from the linux boot disk. Go to restore an image.
(2) Select your image set. I generally always browse to the image set (drive letters can always "change" with removable drives and from boot disks).
(3) It will then show you all the partitions in the image set you made
(4) Tick the ones you want. Macrium wants the partitions restored one at a time. If you have more than one partition in the set, it goes back and asks if you want to select another.

That's about it.

I use the Linux boot disk option and it works just fine for me.

As everybody recommends, use the Linux version of the recovery CD. The BartPe is more complex to use.

Bartpe plugin affers more functions - you can stick it on winpe2/3 boot media as well - works fine.

Macrium Diskrestore will restore multiple partitions - you need to run it from another o/s or boot media.

Can you provide assistance as to how to obtain the Bartpe capabaility with Macrium Reflect free. I don't have a winpe2/3 boot media to start with.
I'm sure many would find it useful.
