how to restore pc from windows image, of a previous windows 7 version

    Hello everybody.:)

My notebook PC was previously installed with "windows 7 home basic", and i have made a windows image backup of it, on an external hard disk.

Now, "windows 7 ultimate" is installed in my PC, and i have no installation disk of this version.

Am i able to restore the pc from the previously made windows image, i have mentioned above?

Is this the same machine the Basic image was made from? If not the image likely won't start up on different hardware. If it is from a factory install then it is locked to the original machine.

Find a Win7 installation DVD for your version, or unlock all versions using this method to burn to DVD and install your version with Product Key on COA sticker: Ei.cfg Removal Utility Lets You Use Any Product Key With Your Windows 7 Disc

I can be wrong but with a full image backup you should be able to restore it to what it was. I have done this in the past with no problems and do so often as I play with other OS ( Linux ) as well. GL :) I likely do a full image write to my HD once a week if not 2 or 3 times.

yes, the machine is same. The image was created from the same machine, running another version of windows 7.

Then there should be no problem reimaging Basic. Sometimes reimaging causes a non-genuine error, but you can overcome that by reinserting the Product Key from COA sticker at Computer>properties link if required.

Do you wish to upgrade again to Ultimate?

How did you do it before?

Type "Anytime" into Start Search box to see if Upgrade to Ultimate is allowed, as this is the easiest method. If so you can insert an Ultimate retail key as well as Anytime key.

If not, there is a workaround to in-place Upgrade to retail Ultimate, however it would be easier to just boot the Ultimate disk to clean install without Basic involved.
