Phantom Programs after Restore / reset

    Hello all!

I have recently had to reset my computer back to a previous restore point. This did fix the issues that I was having, but it also created a new one. This new issue isn't critical, but it is getting annoying. A program that I uninstalled and deleted between the two points in time is now trying to run at start up. The program isn't there anymore, so it can't. I get an error. I have tried to delete it from my start up folder, but it doesn't show up there anymore. I have tried to uninstall it again, but I get an error saying that the files don't exist. Has anyone encountered this problem before? What should I do?

    Thank you,

    ~James

Here is the first error I get upon start up.

If I click on the x or ok, it simply closes this dialog box and opens another one immediately that is identical to it. I have to end the process in my task manager to make it go away.

Here is the second error I got. This was when I tried to uninstall it again.

I hope this information will help you guys help me lol!

I used screenshots so that everyone can see what I see, which includes the program in question: WinZip Driver Updater. It appears in both images.

I have updated my system specs as much as I can. There's still a lot of stuff that I don't know how to find out though. It it doesn't show me when I right click on computer and click properties, then I don't know how to find it

    Missing Program

It appears that WinZip is the offender.

What kind of backup software are you using. If you have an image that you can mount. You could mount the image and restore the WinZip directory.

In the absence of an image you could try a reinstall. Then if you don't want the program it might uninstall via Win.

Just so you know this little program works well to see what in your computer.
    Speccy - Download
    Sorry for my slow brain.
I think what you have is a zip file that has something like this in it.
Download Drivers Automatically - WinZip® Driver Updater
You say you have tried to uninstall it. From where have you tried to uninstall it from. Where did you find the program to try to uninstall it. Have you tried it from the add and remove programs. Have you checked in Windows Explorer/Downloads or Documents. Start/All Programs is it there?
I guess what I'm asking is where did you find it to try to remove it.

I uninstalled it from the add / remove programs from the control panel. It did uninstall (so far as I know) the first time. When I reset my computer to an older setting, it brought the program back, well at least this little ghost of it. I don't want the program, so I tried to re-uninstall it, but then I get this error.

I appreciate you guys for trying to help, and I'm sorry I can't get more info for you. Layback, thanks for that link. I'll check out that download in a bit.

    -edit-

I forgot: I don't know anything about how the back up process works, I just follow the prompts after i search in my start menu for "back up and restore" I'm really not very knowledgeable about this stuff.

I'm really not very knowledgeable about this stuff. Your post.
    That's okay.
Sometimes booting in Safe Mode and removing it will work. Sometimes when what you are trying to remove is running you can't remove it until it is shut off. That is why I had you check msconfig/Start up/ Services. You can check those is Safe Mode also.
Anything can be removed one way or the other. Only some ways should be use by a more experienced user. Try Safe Mode.

The easiest would be to reinstall win zip and then uninstall it that will remove all trace

Hey guys, Thanks for all of the advice.

I read the safemode thing before the reinstall / uninstall thing, so I tried that first. No luck. I couldn't find any trace of the program where you said to look, which is very strange since it was still trying to run in normal boot mode! I also cleared my start up folder in the start menu, which did nothing. Finally, after rebooting in normal mode, I decided to just type the path given on the error in my start menu search and see what came up. I had already searched for WinZip before this and got nothing, but after following the exact path, I could see a folder for this program still on my computer. I deleted it and the 132 items it contained, and now it's truly gone!

Now after reviewing this thread, I'm sure that if I just reinstalled it then uninstalled it that would have worked and been MUCH easier and quicker, but done is done I suppose lol. Thanks guys.
