Can't backup my computer ( Mods, please move this thread if it is the wrong section)
Whenever I try to back my computer with Windows Backup, I keep getting this error message
I'm trying to back it up to my new WD My Book Essential 1 GB WDBAAF0010HBK.
I installed the latest firmware for the drive, but I did not install the software.

If the error is right, it is a size issue.
Regarding the source disk: how many partitions, what size are they, which of them are you trying to back up, and how much occupied space in each of those partitions?
Regarding the destination disk: how many partitions, what size are they, and how much space is free in each of the partitions? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Ignatz Special; 4 speed manual gearbox; factory air conditioning; one of one OS Windows 7 SP1, Home Premium, 64-bit CPU Intel Sandy Bridge i5-2500, not overclocked Motherboard Gigabyte H67A-UD3H-B3, full ATX Memory 4 GB Crucial DDR3-1333 Graphics Card none; graphics are integrated on CPU Sound Card onboard: Realtek ALC892; external: USB Behringer UF0-202 Monitor(s) Displays NEC 90GX2-BK 19" LCD Screen Resolution 800 x 640 Keyboard Leopold Tenkeyless with Cherry Blue switches, USB Mouse Logitech or Microsoft optical wired; either USB or PS 2 PSU Seasonic SS-560KM, modular Case Antec Solo II Cooling CPU: Scythe Big Shuriken; Case: Scythe Slipstream 800 & 500 Hard Drives System: Intel 320 Series SSD, 80 GB;

I have over 900 GB of free space left. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Acer M802 OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit CPU Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.7GH Motherboard MB.SCQ07.002 MB KIT G43 ICH10R HMII EUPLOT6 ECS R Memory 8GB DDR2 Graphics Card HD 6970 1 GB Sound Card Realtek ALC 888s Monitor(s) Displays LG FLATRON 23" W2361V Screen Resolution 1920x1080 60hz PSU Corsair TX650m Case CM 690 II Advanced mid tower Cooling fan Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda ST3750528AS 750 GB 7200 RPM

The MyBook comes formatted as FAT32. FAT32 has a file size limitation of 4 GB, your backup is surely larger than that. Click the start orb, in the search box type cmd, right-click the command prompt in the results and select to run as administrator. At the command prompt type Code: convert [drive letter for the MyBook]: /fs:ntfs without the quotes. This will convert the drive to the NTFS format without wiping the existing data. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built OS Windows 7 Home Premium x64 CPU Phenom II X4 955 BE Motherboard Asus Sabertooth 990FX Memory 8 GB OCZ BE 1667 Graphics Card EVGA GeForce GTX470 SC Monitor(s) Displays BenQ 19" Screen Resolution 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitech Mouse Cyborg R.A.T 7 PSU Thermaltake 850W Case Coolermaster Cosmos 1000 Cooling Air Hard Drives 256 GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD

Does this mean that I have to use the software that came with the hard drive to back up my computer? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Acer M802 OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit CPU Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.7GH Motherboard MB.SCQ07.002 MB KIT G43 ICH10R HMII EUPLOT6 ECS R Memory 8GB DDR2 Graphics Card HD 6970 1 GB Sound Card Realtek ALC 888s Monitor(s) Displays LG FLATRON 23" W2361V Screen Resolution 1920x1080 60hz PSU Corsair TX650m Case CM 690 II Advanced mid tower Cooling fan Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda ST3750528AS 750 GB 7200 RPM

What are the specific answers to the specific questions in my first post?
All drives have at least one partition. Some have 2, 3, 4, or more.
We need more info. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Ignatz Special; 4 speed manual gearbox; factory air conditioning; one of one OS Windows 7 SP1, Home Premium, 64-bit CPU Intel Sandy Bridge i5-2500, not overclocked Motherboard Gigabyte H67A-UD3H-B3, full ATX Memory 4 GB Crucial DDR3-1333 Graphics Card none; graphics are integrated on CPU Sound Card onboard: Realtek ALC892; external: USB Behringer UF0-202 Monitor(s) Displays NEC 90GX2-BK 19" LCD Screen Resolution 800 x 640 Keyboard Leopold Tenkeyless with Cherry Blue switches, USB Mouse Logitech or Microsoft optical wired; either USB or PS 2 PSU Seasonic SS-560KM, modular Case Antec Solo II Cooling CPU: Scythe Big Shuriken; Case: Scythe Slipstream 800 & 500 Hard Drives System: Intel 320 Series SSD, 80 GB;

I have a MyBook 2TB, hooked up and done.
But I used the bundled software to format the drive before I gave Windows instructions to use it for backup.
Something about removing all custom stuff on the myBook. Need to check. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Main WKS/Gaming Sloth OS W7x64P CPU Phenom II X4 925, 2800 Mhz Motherboard GigaByte GA-MA790-FXT-UD5P Memory 16 GB PC3-10700 Graphics Card 2 x ATI 6750 Sound Card Asus Xonar DX Monitor(s) Displays 2 x LG Flatron L2000C (3:4) Screen Resolution 2 x 1600x1200 Keyboard Logitech G110 Mouse Logitech G700 PSU 750 W Case Cooler Master CM 690 Cooling Cooler Master Hyper 612S Hard Drives WDC WD740ADFD (10k rpm)|

Go to the start button search box.
Type in disk management
Take a screen capture of disk management when it comes up.
Post that picture in this thread.
It may or may not be a size issue, but you have to find out. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Ignatz Special; 4 speed manual gearbox; factory air conditioning; one of one OS Windows 7 SP1, Home Premium, 64-bit CPU Intel Sandy Bridge i5-2500, not overclocked Motherboard Gigabyte H67A-UD3H-B3, full ATX Memory 4 GB Crucial DDR3-1333 Graphics Card none; graphics are integrated on CPU Sound Card onboard: Realtek ALC892; external: USB Behringer UF0-202 Monitor(s) Displays NEC 90GX2-BK 19" LCD Screen Resolution 800 x 640 Keyboard Leopold Tenkeyless with Cherry Blue switches, USB Mouse Logitech or Microsoft optical wired; either USB or PS 2 PSU Seasonic SS-560KM, modular Case Antec Solo II Cooling CPU: Scythe Big Shuriken; Case: Scythe Slipstream 800 & 500 Hard Drives System: Intel 320 Series SSD, 80 GB;
