Win7 does not restore Dual Display config after a Reboot

    Hi, all

I have a strange problem with 2 displays connected to my ATI HD4770 Video Card running the latest 10.12 drivers and AMD Control Center.

I have 2 displays connected to the card.

The display 1 (Samsung Syncmaster 225BW) runs at 1680 x 1050 and is the Main display with the Win7 Start Menu.

The display 2 (Phillips Brillance 230W) runs at 1920 x 1200. Physically it is located on the left side of display one.

I arrange the display either by using the Display / Screen Resolution Control Panel Applet or the Catalyst Control Center Desktops & Displays Applet.

Both works fine (drag display 2 to the left side of display 1, chance resolution from 1680 x 1050 to 1920 x 1200.

But when I restart my machine, after the reboot has finished and the desktop appears,
my display settings are exactly as before the reboot.

But when Catalyst Control Center loads, it switches the display and reduces the resolution of the bigger one to that of the smaller main display.

Every time I have to manually restore my custom display settings (Arrangement, different resolution)

Is there someone in Win7 forum which is expert for ATI and CCC running multiple displays in handling those glitches?

    Thanks in advance

    Sincerely yours Oblomow

Are you saving said settings in CCC once you've made those changes by clicking the apply button/tab.

For your convience: try changing monitor connections on GPU, this way when you open CCC, your monitors will be in correct postions that you have physically have set up.

I did not understand your post

    Hi, Bassfisher,

After every Reboot I have to re-apply my custom display settings:

When I boot the machine, I have installed Auto-Login, the Win7 desktop appears in the correct way:

The secondary display is located left of the primary display
The secondary display runs at 1920x1200 while the primary display runs at 1680 x 1050

Then the autostart entries are loaded, which takes a long time, When the ATI CCC loads, it switches the screen location and reduces the screen resolution from 1920x1200 to that of the primary display (1680 x 1050).

It doesn't make any difference whether I correct that using the Win7 displays Control Panel applet or the ATI CCC.
I have to press "Apply" to switch the location and to enhance the resolution on my secondary display.

Those corrections have to be done after every reboot of the machine. But when chances have been done, everything is perfect up to system shutdown or reboot.

I already unplugged the secondary screen, rebooted, saved settings in ATI CCC. When I plug in the secondary screen after a secondary reboot the behavior hasn't change.

For me it seems that there must bei either a conflict between Win7 display control panel settings (which are restored correctly after the reboot) and ATI CCC settings, which result in a more or less default display setting/arrangement:

A secondary display all time has to be located right of the primary display

A secondary display has to use the same resolution as the primary, even if Win7 recommends to use the higher supported resolution of the secondary display (1920 x 1200 vs. 1680 x 1050)

Yes of corse, I expand the desktop from the primary display to secondary.

Do you have a exact description of my problem now? Win 7 still need's to be restarted quite often and it is boring for me to re-adjust screen settings every time.

    Thanks in Advance

Was it working OK before installing the 10.12? If so roll back to the 10.11 or 10.10, as from what I have been seeing elsewhere (and experienced firsthand) the 10.12's are buggy with 4xxx series cards and dual monitors.

    History of the problem

    Hi again,

It was both with 10.12 and 10.11.

Dual Monitor works correctly as long as I used 2 display with identical size and resolution.

I am not willing to switch back to older versions: There is another bug with them:

Windows Screen Tips get orphaned, which means cannot been deleted from the screen until the machine is rebooted.

There is no assistance from ATI technical support.

Possibly shall I uninstall the ATI CCC an just install the driver, managing my displays with Windows displays control panel instead?

    Thanks for your reply
