A while ago I bought an external hard drive to use to back up my computer. I set it up and it was doing it's thing every time it was supposed to. I didn't give it much thought until I had some problems with my computer. I started having Windows shut down and also got the old, dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) multiple times. Well, I called my Brother (I happen to be blessed with Bare Foot Kid as my Brother
) and told him what was going on. We began to troubleshoot and it got to the point I was not even able to turn the machine on and get it to boot up. I ended up taking out all the RAM, but one. Got it to boot up, but it was still having problems and the repair disk would not fix the problems. Decided to format the partition and reinstall Seven. That worked, but obviously I lost everything. Then I remembered my backups on my EHD. Whew!!! Everything was there. All my pics, links, favorites, docs, (my email contacts were still on my iPhone), etc... EVERYTHING. After running Memtest 86+ on the RAM in all combinations, we discovered I have a DIMM socket that is corrupted somehow.
I now have a good reason to upgrade.
So, please take it from me - Run the Back up program. And you can get an external for a good price.
