Cannot Use Outlook Backup.NK2 to migrate to new Install of Outlook2003
Hello All,
I'm so frustrated. Today I had to uninstall the trial version of Office 2007 from my new Lenovo laptop. I installed Office 2003 on it successfully.
My problem is something I've never encountered. When I attempted to migrate (not import, as I learned NEVER IMPORT), I was trying to migrate from what I thought was my Outlook backup.pst file. It turns out to be Outlook backup.nk2 file instead, I first saved this file to my desktop as instructed. Then did File / Open / Outlook Data File and clicked this nk2 file. I get an error message.
Then I found this forum and saw a thread about the Microsoft pkbackup utility, which is exactly the utility I used from my old PC using XP pro to do a daily backup of Microsoft Outlook automatically.
I even downloaded the pkbackup utility on this computer today and tried those the instructions I found on a thread here to migrate the file. No luck.
Do I have to convert this file? Why did this utility save my file in this .nk2 format instead of the .pst format? It is a Microsoft utility I found and downloaded a while back as my backup utility for Outlook, which I use for my business.
I'm pretty frightened that all this time, it may not have been backing up as a .pst to file and I might not have what i need to migrate my Outlook files from my XP computer.
Can anyone help me to do this. My backup drive is all I have because my business PC is down.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Beverly
