I use System Restore and only had to use it twice since Windows 7 was released. I use Macrium Reflex Free for my OS partition and Working partition about once a Month or before a major update. I also use SyncToy for my Pics and Video disc which changes a lot.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I use Restore Points and Acronis True Image Home.

Although I must point out that I hardly ever need to utilize Restore Points, because I use Virtual PC with a Windows 7 installation on it when I test new software. Only when I happy that the new software functions as desired do I install it into Prometheus.

I always create a new Acronis Image of my system drive before I install new Windows updates for just in case any new updates stuff up the system. I find restoring from an image is easier than trying to remove a bad update.

I'm probably not using system restore effectively?? Hasn't added value. One example involved MS installing an Nvidia driver update. MS made a restore point but didn't reinstall old driver.
- virtually never bother with system restore.
- Windows imaging + Macrium imaging for the binds I get in.

I don't make the messes I used to experimenting with stuff, I use VirtualBox a lot now and if I know something I'm playing with may foul things up on the 'real' machine I usually create 2 or 3 new restore points before-hand just in case and if it gets out of hand I have images created using Paragon HDM 2010 Suite I can lay down.

I use System Restore Points except on the SSD, Acronis free for Seagate and WD, Macrium Reflect on one notebook.

Even though I've had SR fail a few times it's nice to have, image backups when it doesn't work.

System restore points have other uses than just doing a system restore.

1. Windows 7 uses them in the previous versions tab in properties along with backups.
2. Using the free Shadow Explorer you can recover any file in them.

Windows 7 images can also be used to recover individual files either by mounting the VHD using Disk Management or even more simply by opening them as an archive with the free 7zip program.

System Restore isn't creating (or saving?) restore points properly
For some reason my System Restore function isn't automatically creating (or isn't showing) System Restore points as it should be doing for "major" system events (e.g., isn't automatically creating restore points before/after Windows Updates and software/driver updates). I'm not sure if it isn't...

System Restore Error, Unable to Create Restore Points
Hello everyone, not sure why but I get an error every time I open the System Restore. I rarely have to use a restore point as I regularly maintain my computer and check for viruses and malware, but I would like to have the option just in case. When I open System Properties, and click the System...

System restore doesn't show any restore points - but they exist
After Tuesday's Windows update I couldn't boot into Windows and loaded my system repair disk planning to roll back to a restore point from the day before. But, the restore wizard couldn't find any restore points. I know my system does it daily and I did a manual one a week prior just to see if it...

Allocated System Restore space holds far fewer restore points now
I have 8gb of space allocated to System Restore, all monitoring my C partition only. This space is always at least 85-90% used according to the System Protection screen. In the past I have had at least 15 restore points to choose from after ticking "show more restore points." But today I went to...

System Restore Has Stopped Automatically Creating Restore Points
My last automatically System Restore Point automatically created by the passage of time was created 2013-01-23. No further automatic system restore points are being created (that means not ever, not daily, not weekly, simply no longer created automatically by the passage of time since last...

Can I Pause/Turn off System Restore WITHOUT losing restore points?
I work with a large software suite. The installer for this suite is really just a collection of many stand-alone installers. If SR is on when I run the installation, it takes a very long time. Additionally, since this is a collection of other installers, SR is somewhat useless to use as a...
