Windows 7: Windows backup causes major crash

Windows backup causes major crash

i went to use windows backup in control panels and it said that windows backup was not set up. so i clicked on it to setup windows back up. the computer shut itself down and won't restart.

asus p6x58d-e
windows 7 64bit
24 gig ram
i7 950
GTX-470 latest drivers
antec 1000 watt power supply
nec pa271w monitor
no other cards or devices

Can you boot to safe mode?

Safe Mode

If so, choose safe mode with command prompt. Once the command prompt loads, type in

rstrui.exe

and press enter. This should load System restore. Choose a restore point from before this problem occured.

If no help, you might try a Startup repair
