Windows 7: Backup does not see homegroup hard drive.

Backup does not see homegroup hard drive.

A wireless homegroup consists of several laptops and a desktop (all Windows 7 Home). The desktop is connected via USB to an external hard drive X, which is also shared by the homegroup.

I would like the backups of all the homegroup computers being automatically written to this one external hard drive (without moving it around each time).

The backup works for the desktop, but not for the laptops. There “Back up now” (in Control Panel/Back up your computer) does not see X. For all other purposes all the laptops can read/write on X.

Can this kind of backup be done? How?

Thanks in advance
