I have a Presario Compaq CQ60 laptop
I've been to their chat they said if I install Windows7 It will erase/delete my recovery partition.. is there anyway i can avoid this? I'm making a recovery disks right now will that help?

well Extreme, i've got news for u, i've got the same laptop as u and my recovery partition (D: just over 8 gigs of it) is still there!! I did a clean install using the custom option, the Vista Basic (which i'd upgraded to Vista Ultimate sp2 and activated with Activator v5) installation was moved to windows.old, in there i copied the program files/sminst folder to win 7 and reinstalled some drivers and apps that HP had preinstalled, use Restore7.exe and follow the options (no need to restart till u u've installed back all u want). Couldn't find a way to get the HP Games back tho.

it wont delete your recovery partition, as long as you dont install to it, (which you shouldnt be able to anyway) and if your upgrading to 7 then your Vista partition is a litlle bit obsolete anyway... iv posted a guide to replacing it with a Win7 partition here: https://www.sevenforums.com/performan...tml#post430603 if your interested
Most recov partitions are disabled when installing another OS. Since you made your Recov disks its usefulness is probably finished.
You can wait til after you install Win7 and check by trying to boot into Recovery using the F-Key given on first bootup screen. It likely won't work.
So you can either delete it now and format/repartition the whole drive using the Win7 DVD Custom>Advance drive tools, or wait til after to see if the Recov partition works and if not delete it then and we can help you recover the space into the partition of your choice using free Partition Wizard bootable CD.
Actually, when I went from XP to Vista on my HP desktop (see computer in specs), I could still use that f-key to boot into the recovery partition without problems and did so once when I wanted to go back to XP, but Vista was too good and only had that XP install for a week.
I believe it will be the same with Windows 7. On my laptop I have installed Windows 7 and still have the recovery partition intact, although I don't know if I will use it in the future.
Not all recovery partitions even give the user the option of burning a disk image...
Yes I can still use it, but since it's not my desktop where it would let me press the F* key, even when I had Vista I had to use the CD that came with the laptop to use that recovery partition, and yes, it is still functionnal as far as I know.
The only reason I keep that partition though is if I eventually want to sell the laptop (which is pretty unlikely because of the extreme quality Asus gave this laptop), I will use it to make it factory and also keep my Windows 7 Retail disk for the next computer.
