Trying to backup to mapped drive . . .

    Hello:

I am trying to set up backup to a mapped network drive.
The server name is "Server1", and it is mapped as J: on my workstation. The name of my workstation is "Workstation1".

The following string doesn't work in the backup dialog "Network Location" field:
    \\Workstation1\J:\

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Chris

The J doesn't matter, it's just what you picked for your local machine.

    Network-wise it doesn't know if you picked J, R, T, X or whatever.

Anyway, are you trying to send data to Workstation1 or Server1?

    The proper phrasing would be

    Code:
    \\Workstation1\c$
    (or \\server1\c$)

    Norwood,

    Thanks for your reply.

I'm trying to set up a backup job (using the Windows 7 "backup and restore" feature). I used the syntax you suggested in the "Network Location" field, but no luck. Perhaps the problem is a permissions issue of some kind (error message is "the specified network location cannot be used".)

Win7 Home Premium won't see network drives.
