    Image backup to RAID using Macrium on WIN 7 64


    Using MACRIUM REFLECT, I have made an image of the partition containing the Operating System (WIN 7 64) and Programs and also an image of the small system partition that Win 7 creates. The original partitions are on on a RAID configured by the INTEL software accessed when booting up. These two partitions have been backed up to a single 2 TB drive connected to the PC via eSATA.

    Because I was getting a BSOD every time I logged in, I restored the the two partitions using the MACRIUM REFLECT rescue disk. Now the boot stops at the DVI Pool line saying there is a disk error and says to press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart. If I do this, ie restart, the same problem occurs.

    Any ideas??

    Macrium doesn't support software raid. The Linux rescue CD doesn't support RAID.

    Firmware RAID controllers need a driver loaded by the host OS. The WinPE rescue CD supports most RAID controllers and RAID drivers can be added.

    When you boot the winpe rescue cd - if you see the disks and not the RAID volume , then you need to add your RAID controller drivers to the Windows PE build.

    I'm not sure I fully understand what I should do, so I'll tell you some more information.

    When I run the Macrium Rescue CD and it comes to the section LOCATE IMAGE, it can now see two partitions, namely:
    D: System Reserve
    E: Win7_Progs_LC

    When I look in these directories, the files all seem to be there, so the Macrium Image Backup has placed the files in partitions.

    To set up the RAID initially, I did it in BIOS and used the ICH10R controller (South Bridge) on the GA-X58A-UD3R motherboard. I also used the INTEL Matrix software which allowed me to create two RAID 0 partitions on the RAID I created in the BIOS.

    To get the system going again, could I install a new drive on which I create three partitions:
    one for system reserve
    one for the operating system and programs
    the remaining space on the drive for data

    and then restore the system reserve and operating system from my image backups to these new partitions?

    I don't have a similar setup here.

    As you have the paid macrium - suggest you post on Macrium Forum - Nick or one of his team is sure to be able to guide you. You need to register to post - only open to owners of paid version.

    They usually respond very fast - even sometimes on a Sunday.
