Can't Set a Back Up to HARDDRIVE?

You cannot backup to your Windows partition. You can backup to another partition on the same drive or an external HDD.
An external (or separate internal HDD) is what you should be backing up to.
I would forget DVDs when it comes to Windows backup, except for factory recovery disks or a system repair disk.

You could try using a restore point. However, I have had a bad experience relying on restore points as a driver installation safeguard. I would feel more comfortable with a disk image to fall back on.

Start > right click on Computer > System protection (top left of the page) > Highlight your C partition > Click on the "Create" button
But MJF says, restore points are not very reliable. And if you muck up your system, they are of no use anyhow. It is better to image to an external disk. And forget CD/DVDs - no good.
