internal backup hard drive replacement

My internal backup hard drive died. I have two internal hard drives in the computer: Drive C (500 GB) and drive E (1 TB-Seagate, used for backup). Drive E is dead. I need to replace drive E (Seagate). Wins 7 pro backup utility allows me to backup in the new drive but not replacing the dead drive(Seagate). The utility keeps listing the old drive Seagate as "not available" even though I removed it already. I do not need to retrieve any data on the old drive. Please show me how to make it work like I have never used backup and start new with new drive.
Thanks
