    Nero

I upgraded from Windows ME to Windows 7 home premium. When I had Win. ME, I purchased and installed Nero software for backing up personal files.
My question is, can I use that same Nero disk (from Win. ME installation) and install it on the Windows 7 system and then update the software? It's afew years old.
    Thanks.

While it will probably install, you would do best checking with the Nero SW (Nero AG) supplier about any upgrade.

You're probably running something like Nero 7, the current version is 10.6, and I doubt that you can do a direct upgrade between those two versions. Also, it's unlikely that Nero is going to sell you an "upgrade" version with that big a gap.

Older versions of Nero may not work with Windows 7. (especially the WinME vintage)

If synchronising/backing up of your personal data files is your only concern, you may be better off with Microsooft's SyncToy

    Download details: SyncToy 2.1

    or

    2BrightSparks' SyncBack free version

2BrightSparks | Download SyncBack Freeware . (I have been using SyncBack for a longtime now and am happy with it. Other family members use SyncToy.)

    Hope this helps.

There are alternatives to Nero. Have a look through the free software thread. :FREE Great Programs for Windows 7

If you have Nero 7 or above, you'll be fine. I'm still using Nero 7 on my Windows 7 x64 tower without issue.

Have been away for afew days but want to thank everyone for their replies of good suggestions and info.
Alas, I think that Nero is a lost cause now as I need the serial number (for updating older versions) and don't have the packaging either.....purchased 7 years ago, so probably is really outdated.

I tried to install Nero from disk and it said: Wizard was interrupted before Nero burning Rom could be completely installed. System has not been modified. Complete install at another time, run setup again. What does sys. modification mean?

Just realized that Cyberlink DVD suite with power 2go is installed on this OS - version 6.0.3101. Don't know how current this version is but will try to figure out how the prog. works and hopefully it will do the job for me.

    Many thanks again.
