Reading files burned to DVD ?

I have just burned a copy of photo files to a DVD using the process which is included in WIN 7 for the first time.
When I now click on that DVD in an attempt to access some of these files , there is a pause after inserting the DVD during which its light flickers showing some sort of activity and also during which the "hourglass" shows next to the mouse pointer.
Eventually this goes out and , against the DVD drive icon in Windows Explorer , I get a message saying "Files ready to be written to the DVD " and the only file showing is "desktop.ini" which , when clicked gives this script:-

"[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21815"

How do I access the files which have presumably been burned on the DVD in WIN 7?
