Hi All,

In case people were wondering, users of Acronis True Image 2010 can get around the 'blocked' software message which Windows 7 puts out (this version was the last build - 4942 and was last updated in 2007). To get it working, read the following post in the Acronis Forum at:

hxxp://forum.acronis.com/forum/5908

You basically have to rename the executable and change a registry key, after I did this, True Image 10 came up in Windows 7 x64 Ultimate SP1 (which is what I run).

I have not tried creating an image as of yet, but plan to do so later this evening.

Acronis True Image 2011 has full support for Windows 7 (and is only $30-40, less with upgrade mail in rebate or competitive upgrade, etc.

Hope this helps...

Huh?

I see the steps you recommended to run ATI2010. I just don't understand. I have it loaded on the machine in my specs. It runs fine out of the box. I run ATI2011 on another similar rig with no problems. Does windows some time block these programs?

I didn't recommend running ATI 10, but rather the individual in the forum post recommended it (on the Acronis site). I haven't purchased ATI 2011 (even though I could get it for $20 after MIR), but wanted to see if ATI 10 would actually work under Windows 7 (and it does)...

I'm doing a full backup of Drive C: to Drive D: just to see how well it works as I'm writing this...

I just completed the backup of approximately 210GB of data on drive C: with the following results:

Initial Backup took 45 minutes, verification took approximately another 41 minutes.

Size of the backup is 156GB (using normal compression)

Here is the size comparison using Windows 7 Backup

WindowsImage Folder size is 222GB (don't know about the compression in Windows 7 Backup)

The time was less using Acronis True Image 10 than Windows 7 Backup.
