How to stop system resume on startup

My computer died because of battery and it's trying to resume from where it shut down. The problem is, my computer crashes at the point of startup when it gives me the option to system resume or reboot normally. Is there some way to get it to stop trying to system resume and do a normal boot?

Thanks

Press the F8 key repeatedly at boot up or use the Startup disk.

Try this:

Note: You may need to do startup repair 3 to 4 times.
Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times
