I have a Asus k52jc laptop with windows 7 home premium pre installed. Now I cant recover my windows installation using recovery partition.It does not appear in the boot menu. But i can see the partition is still there. I cant create a recovery disk either. Can anyone help me?
Ensure to connect your PC to the AC power adapter before using F9 recovery to avoid recovery failure.
Using recovery partition (F9 Recovery)
1. Press <F9> during bootup.
Ensure to press <F9> only once during bootup.
2. Select the language you use and click to continue.
3. Click Recovery in the Recovery System dialog box to start the system recovery.
4. The system starts system recovery automatically and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the recovery process.
How to make a ASUS USB Recovery pendrive
1. Press <F9> during bootup.
Ensure to press <F9> only once during bootup.
2. Select the language you use and click to continue.
3. Connect a USB storage device to your Eee PC and click Backup in the Recovery System dialog box to start the recovery files backup.
The size of the connected USB storage device should be larger than 16GB.
Memory cards are not supported for this function.
A dialog box appears as a reminder if you have not connected the USB storage device for system recovery backup to your Eee PC.
4. Select a desired USB storage device if more than one USB storage device is connected to your Eee PC and click Continue.
5. All the data on the selected USB storage device will be cleared. Click Continue to start the backup or click Back to backup your important data.
You will lose all your data on the selected USB storage device. Ensure to back up your important data beforehand
6. The system backup starts and click OK when done.

Thanks for the help mate. Thing is yes I can access the boot manager, but the thing is it shows only one option- windows home premium(recovered). The recovery has gone out of it. this may have caused because i have used FixMbr option once earlier. is there a way to add the recovery option to the boot manager??

If your recovery partition contains the appropriate boot files like many do, then you can try booting directly into that partition.
You can use Hirens boot disc to attempt to directly boot into a partition.
Typically Hiren's itself will occupy the first "partition" number in its listing then choose the partition after that corresponding to your recovery partition.

Ya I tried with Hiren. but when i try to boot from that partition, it says device not accessible! however thanks in advance..
Maybe it s because disk where is located recovery partition is Dynamic ?
I don t know if Hiren is able to show it. If it can, maybe it can also tranform dynamic disk to basic w/o loss.
If no, EASUS partition manager (home edition : free) can.
Once disk transformed in basic, you can set recovery partition to primary (like system one with win 7), and reset this recovery partition to active.

I realize this conversation is really old, but I have been looking all over the place for instructions on how to create a bootable usb drive for windows 7 (starter edition, 32-bit) for a ASUS Eee PC on which I am trying to install ubuntu. My first attempt at installing them parallel caused so much trouble, I thought I better have an update in case I can't get it going. So, all other instructions I found refer to a tool 'diskpart' that apparently allows the usb to be formatted as a disk (?). However, all these instructions require at some point in the process a windows installation disk/optical drive, both of which are not in my possession.
I created a USB drive according to your instructions, will this be bootable in case my ubuntu installation goes awry?
