HP recovery disk help

Before I had an HP desktop and I was giving it to a friend because I purchased a new custom windows 7 pc. I copied all my files to 7 disks using the HP recover program and now I'm unable to get them off of the disks. My problem is when I put the first disk in and run the program, it doesn't do anything. Before it would ask me to place the last disk in, then place the first disk in, and then it did nothing. But now after I run the program nothing happens. Does anybody know why? Or does anybody know of any other programs that I'd be able to use to view the files and pull off selected ones from the disks? all the files are in FBW format.

Are you trying to use the HP recovery disks to install Windows on your new computer? Because if you are, you can't do it as the recovery disks can only be used to recover the HP computer's operating system and drivers.

If you are using them to recover the HP computer, how are you booting your computer? You need to insert the first recovery disk, and then reboot to start the recovery procedure.

Another possible issue might be how the "backup files" were created. HP may use proprietary software so those files can only be extracted to another HP machine. I had a Dell Vostro that I replaced with a Sony Vaio. I used the Dell "backup and recovery manager" to make copies of all my personal documents, photos, etc. When I tried to move them over to the Sony they weren't recognized.

HP recovery disks will not run on another brand computer or even on another model HP computer (unless its a close relative). If these are only user files, your best bet is to open these disks in the original computer, copy off the files to a normal external disk or dvds, then copy them back to your current computer.

If you're talking about the OS also, its against the EULA to transfer an OEM install, so dont do it (apart from the fact that it wont transfer even if you try).
