    New Macrium Boot Media

In case you hadn't noticed, Macrium version 5 is available.

You can get a 30 day trial of any edition you like and run off a winpe3 boot disc.

They even provide a way to do it for you, It will d/l and install Waik - and make an iso for you - or you can add the wim to your boot menu, or pop it on a flash drive.

Easeus are doing the same thing.

Acronis have been doing it for some time - but the difference is - it's free with Macrium and Easeus.

Macrium 5 recovery media is fully backward compatible with series 4 images

If you are using windows 7 - you don't need WAIK, of course- you can knock up much better recovery media yourself:

Thanks - definitely have a look.
(I put a new i7 system together and the linux disk doesn't work on it)

Just wondering if the trial may affect your free registration???
I thought there was some issue with buying it (one license per PC) and also using the free version on other PCs.

Yes the pro version has been out for a few weeks now. They have made some changes to the user interface as well. One of the better changes is that you don't need separate XML files for Full, Incremental or Differential backups. The choice is now made at run time.

    Installing v5 will uninstall v4.

The installed trial of v5 will expire after 30 days.

It doesn't matter, you can reinstall the free v4.2 after that if you like.

The free v4.2 gives an odd message about requiring internet connection to register - in fact, it doesn't. A couple of seconds after the message, it registers itself even without a connection. The paid version does require connection to register full installation.

The v5 recovery media doesn't expire - for obvious reasons.

You may as well get it - winpe recovery media with v5 on it is much better than the Linux disc - and it works for both v4 and v5 images.

I might post up a little app. later that will do it for you without downloading WAIK.

You don't actually have to download the waik unless you need to customize it. The standard PE option uses a preconfigured PE 3.1 environment.

Unless you already have a purchased version of Macrium you don't appear to have access to the standard pe option and WAIK download is required. The Macrium software facilitate the download so it must be some licensing issue.

I was unable to incorporate USB3 drivers (Renesas) directly into the pe disk for some reason. I selected the option to include new drivers when the pe disk booted. The USB3 drivers were accepted and the USB3 connected HDD recognised. Puzzling.

    Addition:
FWIW the pe disk iso seems to run fine from a grub4dos multibooter USB flash drive.

Ah! That explains it then. I have the paid version.
