    Windows 7 System Recovery


    Hi everyone, I had to do a Windows 7 System Recovery. I backed up all my files to a seperate hard drive. I cannot access my files that I backed up. The files are zip files that I can't open. Is there a program that I need or a trick that I could use to get these files back onto my laptop? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    I take it that you backed up using Windows Backup. In that case you need to use the restore my files button on the Windows Backup dialogue.

    However if you used System Recovery and not an Image Restore then your user data files should not have been changed as System Recovery only "restores" Windows files and settings and any installed programs.

    Hello Cboodog, and welcome to Seven Forums.

    If you used Windows Backup and cannot restore the files using the normal method that Keith posted above, then you might be able to manually extract them using the method in the tutorial below.
