auto-syncing program?

Hi guys I recently bought a seagate portable hard drive. It had Memeo instant back-up software in it for a 30 day trial... Shows how much they tries to rip us off these days..

Anyway, I'm looking for a software that can automatically sync the files (i dont know if i'm using the right word.. I want my external hard drive to keep up to date with whatever new files I save onto the computer. For example: If my hard drive can keep watch on Driver D, so whatever things I save to driver D, my hard drive would be making a copy in itself automatically.

It would also be good to have some kind of... emergency saving technique... so that if my laptop crashes without me saving, the hard drive contains a copy right before it crashed. I know microsoft office can do emergency backups. But let's say my computer crashes and I have no hope of turning it back on... I would like my hard drive to automatically make the emergency back-up so I can go to someone else's computer and load my file up.

Any known softwares like that? money is not an issue. Would Memeo be the best? Or are there better ones

personal data. And by partition if you mean drives..then I have a OS C drive and D drive... Sorry I'm not that well versed in computers.

Among the better known are Cobian, Synctoy, Karen's Replicator, and Second Copy. Some are free, some are not. You can Google those names for more info.

I use Second Copy. It's $30, with a 30 day free trial. Very slick and well-designed. It's been around for over 10 years and so is highly refined with no glitches.

There are two general types: those that use imaging and those that do not. I'd recommend you avoid imaging for personal data and most of these applications don't use images.

They generally work the same way: you use the interface to select which files to back up and the backup destination. Then you choose when to run the backup procedure. Normally, you then just poke a button or two to actually do the copying. The first time you run the backup, all of your chosen files are backed up. Thereafter, only new files or files that have been modified are backed up. The operation typically completes in a minute or so, depending on the number and size of the files.
