This is the catch 22 cop out! What's the name of the store by the way?

The type of operating system you have is called an OEM:SLP (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and mass installed by ACER on their computers without the need for Microsoft to directly activate the OS.

The store's cop out is that ACER have license responsibility to handle your OS problems FREE while the PC is under warranty. This may only apply to the first 12 months so I'd move quickly. I'd make sure you understand the fine print of your 2 year extended warranty if I were you.

How does the store really know the problem is not a hardware problem? They don't!
In my opinion it is not your problem to fix it is ACER's problem to fix and the store should be facilitating the process.

I wouldn't be giving them any opportunity to void your warranty at this stage.

    Keep us informed please.

The name of the store is Future Shop. When I called Acer technical support they told me that because of the problem I have, I would have to buy a system recovery disk from them to fix the problem. It was the only option they offered. No free of charge service

I feel annoyed on your behalf.
It's up to you what to do next obviously but because you presumably have warranty on the hardware which hopefully they will support-
    What I would do:
(1)Buy the recovery disks and follow the installation to the letter. They shouldn't cost too much. Let the store know you are doing this and if the restore fails then the most likely problem is a hardware issue which they must take responsibility for.

(2)The other option is to do a clean install using the COA number on the side of the computer and a set of installation disks which you need to obtain from somewhere. I wouldn't do this at the moment because option (1) could show up a hardware issue which must surely be honored by the warranty.

Other members may have some other suggestions to help here.
