HP DV4-2040US System Recovery Image not completing
My laptop has been crashing about once a month for the last several months. Like it's getting its period or something. Anyway, I've either been doing startup repair or occasionally having to do a full system recovery and that's been fine. However, last night it crashed right on cue and after trying to run startup repair to no avail, eventually getting my computer to fully boot and log in to my profile and getting a BSOD, I decided to do a system recovery and just get it over with. I tried running it off the recovery partition but that didn't work. So I tried running it with the recovery discs I made and it successfully formatted the drive and copied all the necessary files. But when it got to the point where it was installing the software, maybe about halfway through, it gives me a BSOD with 0xe0ef0003 one time and 0x000000F4 the next time. After that it reboots and tries to continue the installation but keeps popping up with an error message that says I have to restart to complete it. I ran chkdsk for good measure and there were some bad clusters that it found and repaired. There were a few left over that it couldn't. I've been finding information about why these errors occur and how to fix them, but being that I really don't have an operating system to log in to, it's a bit beyond my level of knowledge as far as what I need to do to fix it, if there is any way to fix it without having to go out and buy an actual Windows 7 disc. I'm trying to avoid that because I'd prefer not to spend the money on one. But since the first attempt to recover the operating system failed but the hard drive was already formatted, I'm not sure doing a system recovery will do anything at all because there's nothing on the drive to recover. I'm pretty sure the recovery partition is still there but I don't know if it already being formatted renders it useless. But if anyone reads this and has any ideas for me before I buy a windows 7 disc, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
