How do I recover a deleted folder from miscrosoft word

Hi, I have been looking through my documents and have realised that some of my folders and documents are missing. I don't remember deleting them, but possibly could have done by mistake. They are no longer in my recycle bin, and I don't have a windows backup facility. They are quite important documents, and I'm not sure how to get them back. Can anyone please help me? Thanks

The problem is worse than i originally thought. I tried 2 open a document and all my programs hav now converted 2 word format. So i am unable 2 use the internet as it is in word format (i am using my phone 4 internet). I hav realised that my computer must hav a virus/trojan and thats why my folders hav bn erased . I hav no idea how 2 remove the trojan as all of my programs r now in word format. Please can anyone help me? Thanks

Download Malwarebytes and install it, and then run a full anti-virus scan in Safe Mode.

Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a free download that removes viruses and malware from your computer

To get into Safe Mode, you need to restart your computer and tap the F8 key as the computer reboots.

Did you try booting into Safe Mode as I suggested?

If you did and you can't get into it then I'm afraid a reinstall of Windows looks to be your only way out.

How about trying to Restore back to when it was working.
Then run Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a free download that removes viruses and malware from your computer
    as Seavixen suggested.
Make sure you run full scan (takes over an hour)

If you saying all your programs open as documents in word format it sounds like an association issue. After you run that scan have a look at this see if its relevant - Default File Type Associations - Restore

If you think it may be a malware problem - then use any working pc/laptop to download a bootable free anti-malware app. Burn it to cd or put it on usb stick.

Avira AntiVir Rescue System - Download

Boot it on the sick machine and do a scan.
