Thank you all very much. I think I understand what you are telling me. Hopefully I will get new drive soon and can start backing up. After losing that excel file, I don't think I will forget to. Thanks again!

No worries. Just a note, I keep all of my personal files, videos, music etc. on an external hard drive. Anything else can simply be copied over when I feel the need. Windows Backup, though 'not simple' is still a useful tool to use on top of copying and pasting important items. It's always good to have a few methods of backing up, just in case one goes wrong.

Allocated System Restore space holds far fewer restore points now
I have 8gb of space allocated to System Restore, all monitoring my C partition only. This space is always at least 85-90% used according to the System Protection screen. In the past I have had at least 15 restore points to choose from after ticking "show more restore points." But today I went to...

Can I Pause/Turn off System Restore WITHOUT losing restore points?
I work with a large software suite. The installer for this suite is really just a collection of many stand-alone installers. If SR is on when I run the installation, it takes a very long time. Additionally, since this is a collection of other installers, SR is somewhat useless to use as a...

System Restore how to set to show every past restore point inc/manual
I am having difficulties with this. 1. Does Win 7 limit the quantity of past restore points it shows upon user request? 2. If stored elsewhere where do I find them? 3. Is there a way to set it up to show at least the last 10 restore pointsd created, or is there a smaller limit. Right now the...
